For the full wedding check it out here. Seriously nicest couple ever. They live in San Francisco and got married in San Diego. We had a couple of phone consultations, and that was it! It all came together so beautifully, and I'm so happy for their love and wishing them best for a wonderful future together. xoxo

My current Twitter avatar. See how good Instagram makes people look! Below: Pantages Theater seeing Book of Mormon Working with Johnston and Murphy. Below: Me at the flower mart down there, and all the stops we made along the way! I'm heading east for a rendevouz in NYC. It's exhilarating, enticing, a bit scary, but isn't that life? My story is now unfolding under the stars and skies of the Big Apple. Being bicoastal is becoming the reality of the life I want to lead. That's what watching too many Keith Haring, and Warhol, and Basquiat documentaries will do to ya. So what do I have planned? Working on productions and set design, working on my book, producing and selling my tv show, creating mixed media art, writing a plethora of stories, scripts, and whatever else inspires me in the moment.
LaForce and Stevens in NYC asked us to come up with something for the dinner they were organizing, so we decided to create a pinterest board for them, and give a lot of options. Ultimately they chose the hydgrangea, which we created out of about 10 different pieces and then laid it down to create an 18ft centerpiece. Kristin Davis, Dita Von Teese, and a slew of others attended the dinner. Gwen Stefani, at the Chateau with Gavin and the kids walked by and told her son, Look how pretty that table is. Definitely a high form of flattery. Good style never goes out of fashion. Photos courtesy of Wire Image and LaForce and Stevens. Thanks ladies!
I traded one vice for another, Facebook for Instagram. I got off the Facebook sauce, quit cold turkey, like ripping a band-aid off fast- I clicked deactivate (you can permanently delete your account, but that baby holds more of my pictures than probably the amount I've accumulated during my lifetime on a digital/disposable/polaroid camera) and let me tell you, I was so productive that first day. Well maybe not super duper productive, but you never realize how many moments add up until you're not checking your timeline or profile page every five minutes. I also am less jealous of the illusions from other people, and don't have to hear their political nonsense (automatic defriend in my book). Anyway, I still do Twitter and Instagram (flourgal) so I hope you follow along. Send me a tweet or comment and I'll follow back! Stay connected with the Flour LA Facebook page while you're at it! I love reading the comments and seeing the "likes". I do pay attention to everything (my ego would't have it any other way). ©Carly Cylinder 2012. All Rights Reserved for the photos below. No Madonna did, not the mag. In any case, I still have this on my desk. That's my Pop Bernie. I lost him when I was 16. Really sad. I love him a lot. Below: My little brother, the great artist, hipster, and sometimes comedian (per him- he told me, I can't write drama. I'm like, um since when did you start writing comedy?!) Above: My fav centerpiece ever. You know, the one that I wrote the scathing rant about that later got taken down. Yep that one. I love it- so Mid-Summer's Night forrest magical feeling flowers. Too bad it never got to be made.
Below: Yes. White Elegant Pumpkin: 1 white pumpkin 1 white cakestand, plate, or tray 2 bunches white dahlias Cut out center of pumpkin, line with plastic bag, or place a shallow bowl or glass inside. Fill with water. Cut stems of dahlias one length so that the flower rests on the pumpkin. Tie stems with hair band, and place inside water. Okay to refrigerate to keep fresh. You can apply this technique to any type of produce including watermelons, gourds, melons, etc. I usually place my arrangement in the fridge for a few hours or overnight if it's really hot out. Avoid placing hydrangea in the home fridge (unless it's the mini green ones), or any super delicate flower, as the temperature may be too cold for them. Dahlias, roses, tulips, and anything hearty will be fine.
I may be soon handing the reigns of Flour LA, Inc. over to concentrate on my book and personal appearances. In January, I meant to do that, but being so involved, it's hard to break away. We still do daily order, events, weddings, and anything and everything with flowers. I will be shooting a short sizzle for my show The Flower Chef in Carlsbad next week featuring a Hawaiian florist, their culture, the flower mart, and all the great food available. I'm excited to learn about their culture and how to make a lei! I must admit, I've never made one by hand, so it should be interesting!
Go to Flour LA to see the full portfolios. As you can tell, we certainly do a wide variety of floral design from rustic flowers, to vintage, to modern wedding flowers. We travel all over Southern California (San Diego to Santa Barbara), and will travel wherever if the job is right! Vintage art-deco wedding at Cicada downtown.
