Well, well, a day late and a dollar short. Okay I know the Oscar's were yesterday, but c'mon I couldn't be writing and missing all the fashion. Hands-down my favorite dress was the LV Michelle Williams was wearing. And you know my friend Caley, from my previous post, well she dressed the one and only Gwenyth Paltrow - who looked amazing. Yup, my friends are going places... or went places... or are there at the places. So if you did have an Oscar party I hope that you got a little creative with it! Here's how you can make this arrangement at home in 5 easy steps. 1.) Use a square vase, preferably silver or mirror, but you can use whatever you have around - glass, ceramic, etc. You can also buy these at a craft store like Michael's or my fav place to find treasures is at TJ Maxx home goods, etc. 2) Buy a piece of floral foam from any florist or at the grocery store. This is not eco-friendly, so you can use tape instead, but really floral foam is the way to go. I call it training wheels for flowers. 3) Insert 3 rows of 3 roses in each row. That's a mouthful. Cut the stems short, about a few inches long and insert so that the rose head rests on the foam. If the guards around the roses, the green bits of stem that support the rose, are too long, just pick them off. Also remember to remove any unsightly brown petals by gently plucking them off. 4) Buy a boa from a craft store, or steal it from your kid's closet or your friend's bachelerotte party. Cut off a stretch and rap around the vase to conceal the foam. 5) Use smaller feathers or bits from the boa and insert in four areas of the roses. Voila! I originally made this design for an exclusive dinner party, which the venue loved, and the planner did not. I stand by this design and think for a themed party it's fantastic. Why not have some fun, right? I mean, shit, it's only flowers! This arrangement is a bit more complicated. Basically, I created a grid using floral tape, cut 4 hydrangeas and inserted in an angle, and then stuck 6 roses in between the hydrangea. Cut off another piece of the boa and insert diagonally. Voila! I used leftover hydrangea and orchids for the back vase on the end table, and mini carnations packed densely in a plastic tin cup that's in front of the ipad. With a black and white theme, you cannot go wrong. Promise!

Here's a behind-the-scenes look from the at-home Oscar party segment I did with Dee of No Worries Event Planning. We pulled this together quickly over the weekend, and had so much fun. It aired on Monday, February 20th and Tuesday, February 21st. I know the reporter Suzanne Marques through Twitter and LA Woman, and had a lot of fun showing her how to make arrangements inspired by this year's smash hit The Artist. Stay tuned for a how-to post about the flowers- so easy, you'll be shocked. I have to thank Kimberly Bragalone for doing an amazing job with my makeup. She really knows how to make me look good! I'm one of those people that makeup really does make a big difference for;) Caley Lawson, my friend and celebrity stylist, provided me with about 6 dress options, including a to-die-for D&G number. I went with this awesome Zac Posen dress. As I joked, when I'm asked, Who are you wearing? Suzanne will say, you're not actually going to the Oscars, you're showing how to create an Oscar party. Me getting the flowers ready. Filming our segment. Dee went first, and we showed all of the details. Then we took off the linens for the how-to demo. There's Kristine (well the back of her). You may recognize her from all of my crazy adventures. My right-hand gal so to speak. Here's Dee getting ready for her segment. Suzanne is doing a lighting test and as you can tell, Dee is gathering her thoughts. Action! A super funny moment after. We were hugging goodbye and Suzanne's necklace got caught on my mic. We got to know each other close... very close! We were stuck like that awkwardly for a minute. An overview of part of the table-scape. Stay tuned for Part 2 where I will show all of the details.
Nifty Fifty – Make A Difference On Your Big Day
Photograph 50 Weddings, In All 50 States, Within 50 Weeks. Raise $50,000 To Support Victims Of Human Trafficking. If all of those fives don’t move you, then I don’t know what will. If you’re like me, you’re restless about how you can make an actual difference in someone else’s life, especially if you have a career where it seems like a challenge to do. That’s why I was so moved by all of those fives, with such a poignant message. It is called the Nifty Fifty, and I hope that their story will put a spark in you to find a way to make a difference, even just a small difference, in the world. Paper Antler duo Jonny + Michelle Hoffner are making a change that most of us dream about doing. While brushing his teeth one night, Jonny had that a-ha moment, and Michelle jumped right on board. Finally the answer to the burning question – how could they combine their passions for travel, photography, and adventure into a way that could raise awareness and ultimately funds for victims of human trafficking? Nifty Fifty was born. As of February 3rd, they are at 70% of their goal, and have a route list that would make Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift look like slackers. All of the $50,000 raised ($1,000 per wedding) during the tour will go entirely to sustaining the home maintained by She Dances in Tegucigalpa, Honduras for an entire year or will allow She Dances to open an additional safe home in another place of need. The Fifty Nifty wedding packages are $3000, which in today’s market is an incredible deal considering their super high-quality work. Try this on for size: o An estimated 27 million people are enslaved worldwide, 80% are women, 50% are children. o Every minute, two more children are forced into slavery, and 1 million children are forced to work in the sex industry daily. o Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime on the planet; a 32-billion dollar a year business. Pretty disgusting, huh? In a world where you may question humanity, there’s the other side that says, “Yeah, we can change that”. I hope that in your business, you can find a way to spin your product or service for a cause that you’re passionate about, or as a consumer, that you choose to buy responsibility, whether that’s finding Fair Trade certified products, or supporting socially responsible services. For their clients, it was important to them for the money to come out of their package and from the couples so that they feel a connection to the work being done in Honduras and to the girls being helped. As one of their brides, Kelsey Thompson put it, “Mitchell and I loved the fact that part of our wedding, a day that is normally so focused on the couple, could go towards a cause greater than ourselves -- to help prevent human sex trafficking. Being a part of the Fifty Nifty made our wedding even more special and is something we will always remember.” Oh, and if you’re curious about what Paper Antler means, you can sleep at last: Paper = Photograph, Antler = Put up on a wall /Reminder of a sweet memory. Stay Connected – follow Carly @flourgal and www.flourla.com As you know, I'm not a fan of how the e-how series turned out. 10 videos in 3 hours with no rehearsals or anything is really hard to do. You can see me trying to remember the convoluted titles on cue. This one is pretty decent and you can see the smirk as I say "pull the head off" - man, I'm such a sicko.
And, I'm doing the infamous TRIANGLE MOUTH! Alex always likes to point out this mouth, and if you saw that dumb James Franco movie, where they're in Medieval Times with Natalie Portman and I think the guy from Tropic Thunder(?), you will remember the line, Never do triangle mouth- It scares me! Alex does say I'm very mouthy, with mannerisms and such, which makes me self-conscious and even more mouthy. Ay! Click here to watch or click the photo. |
