Nifty Fifty – Make A Difference On Your Big Day
Photograph 50 Weddings, In All 50 States, Within 50 Weeks. Raise $50,000 To Support Victims Of Human Trafficking. If all of those fives don’t move you, then I don’t know what will. If you’re like me, you’re restless about how you can make an actual difference in someone else’s life, especially if you have a career where it seems like a challenge to do. That’s why I was so moved by all of those fives, with such a poignant message. It is called the Nifty Fifty, and I hope that their story will put a spark in you to find a way to make a difference, even just a small difference, in the world. Paper Antler duo Jonny + Michelle Hoffner are making a change that most of us dream about doing. While brushing his teeth one night, Jonny had that a-ha moment, and Michelle jumped right on board. Finally the answer to the burning question – how could they combine their passions for travel, photography, and adventure into a way that could raise awareness and ultimately funds for victims of human trafficking? Nifty Fifty was born. As of February 3rd, they are at 70% of their goal, and have a route list that would make Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift look like slackers. All of the $50,000 raised ($1,000 per wedding) during the tour will go entirely to sustaining the home maintained by She Dances in Tegucigalpa, Honduras for an entire year or will allow She Dances to open an additional safe home in another place of need. The Fifty Nifty wedding packages are $3000, which in today’s market is an incredible deal considering their super high-quality work. Try this on for size: o An estimated 27 million people are enslaved worldwide, 80% are women, 50% are children. o Every minute, two more children are forced into slavery, and 1 million children are forced to work in the sex industry daily. o Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime on the planet; a 32-billion dollar a year business. Pretty disgusting, huh? In a world where you may question humanity, there’s the other side that says, “Yeah, we can change that”. I hope that in your business, you can find a way to spin your product or service for a cause that you’re passionate about, or as a consumer, that you choose to buy responsibility, whether that’s finding Fair Trade certified products, or supporting socially responsible services. For their clients, it was important to them for the money to come out of their package and from the couples so that they feel a connection to the work being done in Honduras and to the girls being helped. As one of their brides, Kelsey Thompson put it, “Mitchell and I loved the fact that part of our wedding, a day that is normally so focused on the couple, could go towards a cause greater than ourselves -- to help prevent human sex trafficking. Being a part of the Fifty Nifty made our wedding even more special and is something we will always remember.” Oh, and if you’re curious about what Paper Antler means, you can sleep at last: Paper = Photograph, Antler = Put up on a wall /Reminder of a sweet memory.
