So along with the recycled car part centerpieces, we suggested an 8ft tall checkered flag behind the podium. We headed to Home Depot and used our basic construction knowledge, ie hammer, nails, wood. After we built the frame, which many will say is one of the greatest architectural creations of the modern era, Kristine climbed to the top and met a friendly giant. Then, we proceeded adding flowers in a checkered pattern while shaping it to look like it's waving. We did this for the next 10 hours. Yes, 10. Not only was the size a bit of a challenge, but the real challenges were 2 things: 1. how to transport this massive structure and 2. hydrangeas are like fruit flies - they die in a day. It was good that we overbought because half of the hydrangeas that you see in the above picture died by the next day. Miraculously, everything came together in time and it was all worth it!
