Filed under: Weddings Sabrina of Blossoms of Elegance submitted some really cool photos, but what really caught my eye was this backdrop. I asked myself, How did she do that? I actually stared at the photo for some time. I like everything about this, especially how delicate it is; very much like a watercolor painting. They nailed it for the space, and I just think this is such a good idea for filling it something grand, but keeping it simple. Lets find out her inspiration. Per Sabrina, "Every ceremony location that our brides choose, gives us, at Blossoms Of Elegance an opportunity to showcase that location for the magical moment when the couple says, "I do". The large marble niche at The Old Courthouse in Decatur, GA was the perfect background for a romantic garden-branch design with dark-blue delphinium flowers, to give the room some "pop". It softened the defined lines of the marble and created a focal point in the room for the ceremony. It was a challenge designing it on site but well worth the effort and our bride and groom were beyond delighted with the result! Really pretty bride's bouquet too! It's so soft, and those grey berzelia are my absolute fav to incorporate into designs. The tightness of the bouquet with wildflowers gives this an elegant look. See you can use wildflowers and not have a rustic feel! Blossoms of Elegance Facebook
Filed under: Events These come from the in-house florist for the Boca Raton Resort and Club. I really liked the neatness of these flowers (they are very clean and tidy), but I noticed the common thread was how great they matched the linens, as if the flowers were the focal point and the accent at the same time. I always thought it would be so much fun to be an in-house florist like Jeff Latham. Carnations above. Callas Lilies below. White Callas, Hydrangeas above. Pink Orchids, Roses, Anemones. Filed under: Editorial, Events, Holidays You know I love a good theme, and Shane Walker's fine line between madness and genius can be seen in the shear fun and love expressed in his floral design below. It's so evident, right? How great is that Mad Hatter? I LOVE the teapot. So good. The Mad Hatter theme is one that's done again... and again... and again. Every freakin florist loves the Mad Hatter (I do too), but with this design, Shane nails it. This is the best one I've seen. And of course, the Native American to the right is equally creative too. There's something so crisp and clean about the designs we see here. I love love love anything clear and acrylic. It just is so timeless. And the apples below make for a refreshing splash of lime green against the white. I normally don't like these sorts of things, with just a fruit bowl, but the silver cups filled with what looks like china berries or green hypericum (coffee beans) really makes it pop into something more elegant. Filed under: Events It is clear when looking at Maggie Gillespie Designs she has a very lush, romantic feel. It's no surprise then, when I saw this modern designs below, I was immediately drawn to it. It's just my personal taste. But the rest of her designs are very dramatic, and how we often think of flowers, deservingly so. Lets find out her inspiration! Per Maggie, " Thiswas inspired by someone else's work that I had seen somewhere. This was years before Pinterest, (smiling)but not years before print! But I thought the scale of the other was off and elongated the cylinders, shot light up through them making a light table from a 60" round and adding floating candles with submerged orchid cylinders massed below for a little extra light. The inspiration was from the couple who loved orchids and a mix of ranch and contemporary, he who was from a south Texas ranch and she was from the big city, so the locale was at a rustic setting with modern tables. That table was the corner of an L shaped bar shortly after that photo was shot." Maggie Gillespie Designs Facebook
Filed under: Weddings When looking at Blossom and Bee's website, I noticed the normal arrangements available, but then when I really browsed, I saw that they did the same with wedding items, that can be ordered online. You don't see that normally-- only daily deliveries. Everyone will have a portfolio online, but you never see pricing for weddings displayed like this, as Pennylyn's company Blossom and Bee does, and thought it was interesting. It gives the client instant feedback on the price range for various designs. I think that's a good thing. Per Pennylyn, "I put previous work up for reference for my clients, I try to never replicate designs. What typically happens is I will meet with the clients and get a feel for their style and taste. I show them my portfolios so they can get a feel for me and my work. Once I have a good idea of what they're looking for I will give them a proposal based on their needs. If a client saw my website and called I could whip up any of the designs almost immediately assuming the varieties were readily available." She continues, "I won several big awards In the wedding industry last year which is very exciting but not as important to me as creating unique and special designs for events and everyday. My flower shop is open for retail, but I've become known for unique and custom designs so mostly everything is ordered in advance." Blossom and Bee Facebook
Filed under: Editorial This is only the second feature I've done about myself or company, so that's not too bad, right? I'm just as critical of my work as of others, but probably more so, as we all are. I had so, so, so much fun doing this shoot. Originally we were trying to figure out how florals would fit into the narrative of it being a post-apocalypse delusion where this woman thinks it's her wedding day, but there's only one problem. Her fiance is a mannequin! Oh, that crazy lady. I mentioned, what if out in the desert, there were flowers growing out of a dead bush, by some miracle and from that she picks the flowers for her "wedding". Looking at the photos, you can't see the bush- the poor shrub we pulled out and replanted at the setting and then placed flowers in. But, that's the background. Check out the behind-the-scenes video by Kristin and Laure here, along with the full narrative and the full spread! Kristine and I went up there for the day shoot, and then each person on the shoot rented a trailer in the little park. It's so small inside and feels like you're inside Barbie's trailer park. Each airstream has a theme. We stayed in the Integratron one, fit with a ceiling of glittery stars. Some of the airstreams were really out there. We had about four setups. You can see more photos on Kristin's Facebook page. We ate both dinner and breakfast at this really great place, that I'm completely blanking on, but will let you know when/if I think of it. You should definitely check out the trailer hotel online and even visit. It is off the beaten road, and totally worth it. The rooms are pretty expensive (I think around $200) considering you're in a trailer with no bathroom. There's a bathroom for everyone to use outside. But still, a way cool experience. Kristin Banta Events and Laura Grier of Beautiful Day Photography along with Tara of MakeUp Therapy came up with the concept. Laura and Tara came up with the idea in a hotel room, like a year before they got Kristin on board. I kind of trickled in after. I LOVED this team. So professional, fun and ON IT. I like people that get it, and really just get shit done. These woman do.
Filed under: Weddings This was the first time I had a submission from a bride, and when I perused through the photos I had a lot of mixed feelings, such as, do I agree with the aesthetic? A lot of hhhmms going on in my head. Ultimately I think that the style, colors, and really everything, were very complimentary to each other. There is a definite look, opinion, and essence about the couple and the wedding that really shines through. I really like how unique this is to the individual and reflects their personalities. Lets find out the bride's inspiration! Per the bride, Jessica Hersh, "My florist was The Green Flamingo in Richmond, VA, and the photographers were Jen + Ashley Photography in Richmond, VA. I got married in an old train station, so the inspiration across the board was vintage/1920s décor. After checking out images on Pinterest, I was really drawn to purples and peacock feathers. It was classic and different all at the same time, which was the perfect vibe for me! The centerpieces were actually made my mother-in-law (Jackie Puglis), but everything else was Green Flamingo." I would never think to put the dyed plum leaves with a single purple hydrangea, but the florist did! I've never seen this before-- have you? I really like the stands; the brown old-world color and branches. The flowers on the stands in the back are really nice too! The colors work so well together, and the style of design, albeit simple, is great. It just goes to show you that you don't need super large arrangements for ceremony flowers! The bride's bouquet has a mixture of purple flowers, and I think given her vision and the style and color, the florist executed this really well. The boutonierre is lisianthus and a peacock feather. Again, the centerpieces aren't something I'd normally go for, but it just makes sense in the setting for some reason. Like it all works really well together from ceremony to reception and has a balance to it. Thank you Jessica for sharing! Wishing you and yours a lifetime of happiness and bliss:)
